| What is Provenance? Provenance means keeping track of an artwork's ownership. This is important because if there is a dispute as to the authenticity of a work, a trail of ownership protects the collector's investment.
It is also important because other collectors and their agents and galleries use this information to track down ownership of work they are interested in buying.
Museums and curators use the information when they hope to use a work in a show of the artist's work.
We keep strict provenance on all of Judy Rey Wasserman's paintings, signed & numbered prints (both original and reproductive), sculptures and drawings. Real fine art prints (limited edition signed and numbered works that are archival quality) are valuable artworks and can show strong increase in value over time, for instance, consider the prints of Warhol, Lautrec and Daumier.
We work to track the ownership (provenance) of our all of our fine art, including our fine art prints. Every collector is included along with information about the work(s) owned in a special database. Collectors are always asked to notify us so we can update the database whenever a work changes hands.
Every print and most other work is accompanied by the artist's own Certificate of Authenticity, which has a one of a kind code assigned only to that print. The codes are random making any attempt at forgery or fraud of a owk easy to detect by simply contacting our studio office. |
